Harumi Momota to Show Modern Designs Created
with Ancient Techniques
at Couture Fashion Week New York
Acclaimed Peruvian designer Harumi Momota will present her latest collection at Couture Fashion Week for the first time at 8:00 pm on Saturday September 7, 2013. The runway show will be held in the Grand Ballroom of the New Yorker Hotel, 481 Eighth Avenue, in the heart of the city's Fashion District. An award-winning fashion

Harumi Momota has been actively involved in textile design, product
development and working with craft and industrial workshops in Peru
for almost a decade. She has taken a leading role in
the creation and development of
supply chains of Peruvian raw materials, labor and finished products
that meet the strict standards of the world’s high-end markets.
Ms. Momota’s distinctive fashion collections
have been shown at major events around the world including Colombia,
Mexico, Ecuador, Chile, Paris, and the Dominican Republic, as well as
at trade events representing Peru in Germany, the USA, London, and
Japan. Ms. Momota’s creations are made entirely by hand using
ancestral Peruvian techniques that date back over 5,000 years,
such as stick weaving, crochet and loom weaves. Her trademark fibers
include yarns spun from
fine
alpaca and vicuna wool, as well as Pima
cotton, Drytex and Andean blends. Ms. Momota has written articles for Gente
(People) magazine on current fashion trends and their historical
context. Through television appearances she has also promoted the use
of indigenous materials and some of the challenges faced by native
peoples. She has been featured in many prominent publications
including Diario Comercio, Fashion New Mexico, Global fashion
Exports, Divina, Maju, Luna, Punto & Plano, El Comercio, Prensa Nikkei,
and Life, as well as on Fashion TV, E! Entertainment
Television, and Cosmopolitan TV Internacional. Harumi Momota is recognized as a brand ambassador by the Peruvian
government. Her designs are available in prestigious boutiques in
Mexico, Paris and Japan as well as Peru, and she has an atelier in New
York City. Couture Fashion Week is a multi-day event showcasing couture and luxury fashion. It also includes exhibits of luxury brands and fine art as well as world-class entertainment and receptions.
