Unique Indigenous-Inspired Designs by Danita
Strawberry
at Couture Fashion Week New York
In
her debut appearance at Danita Strawberry’s
unique designs are influenced by her cultural Cree and Ojibway
ancestry. She is the proud owner and creative force behind Sky Spirit
Collections, based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Her creations are
highly original, combining current trends with a tastefully indigenous
look. The concept of Sky Spirit is based on Danita’s special interest in keeping her Cree/Ojibway heritage alive through the intricate designs of her Peoples. “I want to share my fashion designs with the
world,” says Danita Strawberry. “For centuries, my People have always
had a special connection with using natural materials such as shells,
beads and hides to adorn themselves for special gatherings and as a
means of social status. When I design, I’m bringing a modern
contemporary approach to the original indigenous styles.” For more
