To work in fashion is a dream many people share. But besides the glamorous and creative side of the industry, it is also hard work. Here are some tips for how to find a job in fashion and how to succeed.
1. Know what you want
First it is important that you know what you want and define your goal. Think about your strengths and which position you want to achieve. Talk to people already working in the industry, read articles, stay in the loop to find the fashion profession that suits you. There are various job offers in fashion, so it might be good to regularly check the job portals. To simplify your job search look for platforms that focus on careers in fashion. You will be able to find more vacancies that are relevant for your search.
2. Make sure you are up to date
Whatever career path in the fashion industry you wish to follow, make sure you know what is happening within the industry at all times. 3. Know how to sell yourself
It is all about experience and know-how. Even though having attended an educational institution in fashion is really important, it is in no way a guarantee to finding a job. If you already have experience, try to highlight it in your job application. Prepare yourself wisely and know your selling argument.

Reinventing Couture is the Latest Collection by Felisha Dee Bullock
Designs by Felisha will once again grace the runway at Couture Fashion Week New York with her “Reinventing Couture” fashion line. The collection by designer Felisha Dee Bullock will be shown on the runway at 4:00 pm on Saturday September 10, 2016 at the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan, in the heart of the Big Apple.
Often called the “Queen of Satin,” Dr. Felisha Dee Bullock is a native of North Carolina. She is an author, entrepreneur, workshop speaker, conference facilitator, business owner and founder of Designs By Felisha, FDB Consultants & Associates, and the Women in Business Alliance Network. Dr. Bullock has over 18 years of federal service, with her last assignment with the Executive Branch Office of the President.
Felisha Dee Bullock has had a passion for fashion design since childhood, but only recently began to pursue her dreams. She has designed gowns for college pageants and bespoke wedding gowns for her discerning clientele. She showed her designs on the Couture Fashion Week runway for the first time in September 2015. In 2006 Dr. Bullock published her first book entitled Was It Worth the Look-Let Go of Your Past. Her motto is “your gift will make room for you”.
Rising Design Star Maria Beuthame Makes Debut at Couture Fashion Week NY
Rising Senegalese design star Maria Beuthame will present her latest collection during the 24th season of Couture Fashion Week New York. The runway show will be held at 8:00 pm on Friday September 9, 2016 in the Broadway Ballroom at the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan, 1605 Broadway, New York City.
Maria Beuthame has been passionate about fashion since childhood, and through determination and great efforts, she is realizing her dream. Her fashion designs and jewelry creations are highly original and unique, reflecting a classic style with a modern edge. She strives to highlight and promote African culture, traditional values and heritage in her designs. In her latest collection, Ms. Beuthame gives preeminence to the “Lepi, ”a woven cloth tinted in indigo blue, that is used by the Peuls ethnic group in Senegal for important ceremonies such as weddings. This distinctive fabric is mixed with colorful African wax print fabrics. All dresses are adorned with her own line of jewelry that features all-natural materials.
In addition to her fashion design career, Ms. Beuthame works to share her knowledge with young adults and is partnering with a friend to create an association to help street children. She is thrilled and proud to be making her international design debut at Couture Fashion Week.
C. Lysias Designs by Stephanie Gamble Set to Shine at Couture Fashion Week
Designer Stephanie Gamble will make her first appearance at Couture Fashion Week New York with the showing of her latest collection for her C. Lysias Designs label. The fashion show will be held at 8:00 pm on Friday September 9, 2016 at the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan, in the heart of New York City.
A resident of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, designer Stephanie Gamble is a Canadian Aboriginal woman from the Beardy’s and Okemasis First Nation. She hails from a creative family, and expresses her own creativity through fashion as a self-taught fashion designer.
In 2015 Ms. Gamble launched C. Lysias Designs. (C. Lis-see-us Designs). C. Lysias Designs is a Canadian and Aboriginal owned fashion brand with a vision to expand globally. Every piece of clothing is one-of-a-kind and authentic. It features a design aesthetic ranging from high-end to comfort casual, often changing it up to give customers a variety of design options to choose from.
Stephanie Gable is also an active youth advocate, and has dedicated her C. Lysias Designs line to raising awareness of social issues facing our youth today. She recently co-created a youth empowerment photo-shoot called, “Storytelling by Design: A Story Shoot of Empowerment”. It gave youth a chance to share their stories of overcoming adversity in hopes of inspiring others through fashion.
C. Lysias Designs has been showcased locally and internationally at important events including Indigenous International Fashion Week in Regina, Sask., Canada, Montana Fashion Week, Toronto Business Boot Camp, and World Indigenous Business Forum Fashion Show in Saskatoon, among others.
Accessories Designer Teresita Rodriguez Tanon Returns to Couture Fashion Week

With a successful career spanning over 20 years, Teresita Rodriguez Tanon is a native of Naranjito, Puerto Rico. She is a graduate of the Puerto Rico Merchandising Institute, and worked as a designer for K-Love Fashion as well as with numerous performers and beauty queens from the island. Ms. Tanon has shown her designs at many important events including Gotitas de Amor por Haiti and Puerto Rico South Fashion Week, as well as Couture Fashion Week New York. Each of her distinctive creations, for both women and men, is unique and inspired by her deep faith in God. She is currently working on projects aimed at expanding her line in New York City and California.
Isabel Zapardiez Returns to Couture Fashion Week with Latest Sublime Collection
Renowned Spanish designer Isabel Zapardiez will show her latest breathtaking collection at Couture Fashion Week New York. Part of the prestigious event’s 24th season, the fashion show will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday September 10, 2016 in the Broadway Ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan, in the heart of New York City. A selection of Ms. Zapardiez’s designs will also be part of the “Best of Couture Fashion Week” fashion show at 8:00 pm on Sunday September 11, 2016.
Creativity and innovation define Isabel Zapardiez’s career and her experience in various design disciplines, although bridal design is her main hallmark. Ms. Zapardiez’s passion for dressmaking is in her DNA, and she showed a very early interest in sewing and pattern design. She earned a degree in Dressmaking and Pattern Design at Basque Country University, and went on to study fashion design in Madrid and Barcelona. She began her fashion career in the world of pret-a-porter, with her own brand as well as collaborating with other fashion brands on various projects. In 2002 she entered the world of Haute Couture and opened her first studio in San Sebastian, designing wedding dresses and clothing for special occasions. Her design approach is to address the “total look” of women in key moments of their lives, be it a wedding or other memorable events.
Isabel Zapardiez’s work is framed within the universe of couture, due to the delicacy of fabrics, the exclusivity of designs and the detailed tailoring carried out at her workshop in San Sebastian. Her creations are elegant and subtle, but also avant-garde and highly original. Ms. Zapardiez’s inspiration comes from contrasts and fusions, concepts and life experiences, the result of her professional experience from all the women she has dressed, as well as the aesthetics for which she is passionate. Isabel Zapardiez’s studios are inspired by the feminine universe, full of sensations and details. They are places to experience the world of haute couture first hand, in an exquisite and delicate way.
Isabel Zapardiez has shown her designs on many important international catwalks, including the Gaudí fashion shows, Barcelona Bridal Week, Couture Fashion Week New York and the London World Bridal Show, among others.
Artist-Designer Alexandra Popescu-York Takes Couture Fashion Week on a World Tour
Acclaimed artist-designer Alexandra Popescu-York will make her sixth appearance at Couture Fashion Week New York with her Spring-Summer 2017 clothing collection entitled “Tour du Monde” (World Tour). A CFW must-see, Ms. Popescu-York’s fashion show will be held at 6:00 pm on Sunday September 11, 2016 in the Broadway Ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan, 1605 Broadway in New York City.
“Tour du Monde” is a capsule-type collection that never goes out of fashion. It is as timeless and stirring as the memories of one’s soul-enriching travels around the world, from the iconic Côte d’Azur and Saharan sunsets to the centuries-old cathedrals, boulevards and royal gardens.
As has become customary in the past few seasons, two of Alexandra Popescu-York’s latest monumental (140 square feet) paintings will serve as background pieces for the “Glamour Rush” fashion show by Couture Fashion Week producer and designer Andres Aquino, a great aficionado of Ms. Popescu-York’s art. That show will be held at 8:00 pm on Saturday September 10, 2016.
A native of Bucharest, Romania, Alexandra Popescu-York is a New York City-based designer and artist, a world-class power acknowledged by the industry’s best early in her career. Among the numerous accolades she has garnered is the recent inclusion of her paintings in the United Nations’ 70th Anniversary International Art Exhibition in New York. Ms. Popescu-York’s humanitarian efforts have earned her the “Ambassador of Good Hearts and Romanian Culture” title. Ms. Popescu-York is also known as Alexandra Suciu in her double role as wife and mother. Her sons Alexander Julian and Ralph have walked the Couture Fashion Week runway.
Ms. Popescu-York’s fashion creations are characterized by each piece’s symbolic depiction of finely selected themes. Recent themes include “Unleashed” (a rich collection of garments and accessories with a glamorous avant-garde look that is as edgy and unique as the eponymous New Yorker), “Âme de l’artiste” (soul of the artist), “Phoenix – The Legend”, “Metropolitan” (inspired by art, history and civilization highlights from the Metropolitan Museum of Art), and “GranD’Or”, a collection based on Ms. Popescu-York’s own artistic creations.

Palm Beach designer Kristen Alyce and Florida native artist Sarah LaPierre, have partnered their skill and passion to launch VIVRE Canvas Couture, a luxurious new high-end collection of handmade, hand painted couture gowns and accessories. The debut release for the Palm Beach Collection, and the brand as a whole, will be during Couture Fashion Week New York. The fashion show will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday September 10, 2016 in the Broadway Ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Times Square New York. Models will be draped in genuine hand painted artwork as they walk the catwalk.
The line is based in the famously beautiful city of Palm Beach on the South Florida coast. In this debut collection each handmade gown, cocktail dress, bow tie, purse, and pair of shoes represents the life and experience on the luscious tropical island of Palm Beach. Each item is carefully crafted of fine artist canvas and linen and entirely hand painted. Each garment, made from 100% canvas and covered in thick bodied acrylic paint, requires a minimum of 5 fittings, and takes anywhere from 8 to 80 hours to create from start to finish.
“No matter the weather, always bring your own sunshine,” is the inspiration for this collection. The Palm Beach paradise portrayed on these garments is breathtaking. Not only because you wish to be sitting among the lush palm trees and blue waters this autumn as the northern leaves fall, you can truly admire and bask in the bright turquoises, yellows, and pinks in the depth of the paintings themselves.
